Category A & B Firearms Safety Course

This course is designed for individuals seeking a Queensland Category A & B Firearms Licence for recreational shooting, hunting, primary production, or rural use.

Delivered through QMRC-approved training pathways, this course provides the essential knowledge, safety foundations, and practical handling skills required to safely own and operate firearms in Queensland.

Category A & B licences cover common sporting and recreational firearms including:

Rimfire rifles
Centrefire rifles
Shotguns
Air rifles
Paintball markers

Whether you are completely new to firearms or have prior experience around rural properties or hunting environments, this
training is structured to build confidence, competence, and safe firearms handling practices from day one.

Course Structure

The course includes both theory and practical training components.

The morning session focuses on firearms safety principles, legal responsibilities, safe handling procedures, and Queensland licensing requirements.

The afternoon practical session covers the fundamentals of safe and accurate shooting techniques, including live-fire exercises conducted under instructor supervision.

Participants will also receive instruction on:

Firearms handling procedures
Range safety and conduct
Basic marksmanship principles
Firearm maintenance discussions

There are two multiple-choice examinations completed throughout the course as part of the assessment process.

Course Details

Training Locations

CQ Elite Readiness Group provides firearms safety training and practical shooting instruction across Rockhampton, Emerald, Longreach, Yeppoon, and various locations throughout Central Queensland depending on operational requirements and group bookings.

Training may be conducted at:
• Approved shooting ranges
• Approved private property locations
• Rural and remote training environments
• Group booking locations by arrangement

Flexible scheduling, private group bookings, and rural training options may be available for individuals, organisations, sporting groups, and operational teams.

Booking Requirements

50% deposit required to secure your booking upon receiving invoice and joining instruction.
Remaining balance payable before commencement of training.

Category A & B Firearms Safety Course

Category A & B with Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): $200

Complete Category A & B + Category H Package

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Candidates with previous firearms experience may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Approved RPL applicants may be exempt from completing the practical shooting component of the Category A & B course.

To apply for RPL, candidates must provide evidence of previous firearms use or relevant experience.
