Meet the Team

Scot Doulis
Founder & Director

Scot Doulis is the Founder and Director of Elite Readiness Group Pty Ltd, a Queensland security, training and workforce development company based in Central Queensland.

Scot commenced his Australian Army career in 2010 within the Royal Australian Infantry Corps and continues to serve in the Australian Army Reserve. He currently holds the rank of Lieutenant and serves with the 31st/42nd Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment, as a Platoon Commander.

Throughout his Defence career, Scot has held leadership and instructional appointments including Army Recruit Instructor, Platoon Sergeant and Platoon Commander. These roles have provided extensive experience in personnel development, leadership, operational planning, training, risk management and preparing teams to perform effectively in demanding environments.

Alongside his Defence service, Scot has worked within Queensland Corrective Services and as a civilian Operational Skills and Tactics Instructor with the Queensland Police Service, delivering operational training in Central Queensland. This experience has provided practical exposure to public-safety training, conflict management, use-of-force frameworks, organisational training and the operational requirements of frontline agencies.

Scot holds qualifications across security, emergency management, risk, leadership, project management and vocational education and training. These include a Diploma of Security Risk Management, Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (Emergency Management), Diploma of Project Management, Diploma of Leadership and Management, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Certificate IV in Security Management, Certificate IV in Risk Analysis and Certificate III in Close Protection Operations, together with qualifications in armed security, cash in transit, first aid and firearms training.

Scot established Elite Readiness Group to connect Defence and public-safety experience with the regulated civilian security industry.

A central focus of his work is improving the transition from military service into meaningful civilian employment. Scot believes the leadership, discipline, situational awareness, communication and operational experience developed through service can make a significant contribution to Queensland's security workforce when supported by appropriate civilian training, licensing and employment pathways.

Through Elite Readiness Group, Scot's objective is to work collaboratively with government, registered training organisations, veteran organisations, employers and existing security providers to strengthen professional standards, create sustainable employment pathways and build security capability across Queensland.

Garry Penney
Business Development Manager

Garry Penney is the Business Development Manager for Elite Readiness Group, responsible for industry relationships, commercial partnerships, client development and supporting the growth of ERG's training, security and workforce development capability.

Garry served in the Australian Army for more than 15 years across infantry, recruiting and Special Operations appointments. After progressing through the infantry to the rank of Corporal, he served as an Infantry Section Commander with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment.

In 2017, Garry successfully completed selection for the Special Air Service Regiment and became a beret qualified member of Special Operations Command, serving with the Regiment until 2022. His military experience included leadership, operational planning, specialist training, interagency coordination and performance within complex and highly regulated environments.

Following Defence, Garry transitioned into civilian business and public safety training. He served as a civilian Weapons and Tactics Training Officer with the Queensland Police Service, delivering and assessing firearms and operational skills training for sworn police officers across the region. During that appointment, Garry held qualifications as a QPS Weapons Instructor, Taser Instructor and Active Armed Offender Instructor.

Alongside his operational background, Garry has co-founded and developed an Australian business, building practical experience across business development, supplier negotiation, marketing, customer engagement and day-to-day commercial operations.

Within Elite Readiness Group, Garry focuses on developing relationships with government, industry and security providers, identifying new opportunities and helping connect ERG's operational capability with sustainable employment and commercial outcomes.

He remains involved in training and capability development, with a particular interest in helping veterans translate the skills developed through service into meaningful civilian employment.

Todd Martin

Senior Instructor⎮Tactical & Operational Training

Todd Martin is Senior Instructor for Tactical and Operational Training at Elite Readiness Group, bringing more than 20 years of military service complemented by senior roles across law enforcement and corrective services. His career has been built on leadership, firearms instruction, tactical training, emergency response, operational planning and personnel development in high risk environments.

Most recently, Todd served as a Training Officer with the Queensland Police Service, where he delivered and assessed firearms training across pistol and rifle platforms, instructed operational skills and tactics, tactical first aid and use of force programs, and mentored personnel to achieve and maintain operational competency. He also contributed to the development, delivery and continuous improvement of training programs designed to meet organisational and legislative requirements.

Prior to his role with the Queensland Police Service, Todd worked with Queensland Corrective Services as a Tactical Response Officer, Firearms Instructor, Team Leader Incident Commander, Logistics Advisor and Trainer. In these roles he managed high risk incidents, delivered specialist training, led emergency response teams and supported operational capability across the organisation. He holds a broad range of specialist instructor and operational qualifications, including Service Pistol and Service Rifle instruction, Police Operational Skills and Tactics, Tactical First Aid, and advanced first aid and emergency response qualifications.

At Elite Readiness Group, Todd applies that experience to course development, advanced instruction and operational standards across both the training and security divisions. His focus is on building capable, confident teams, and on training that holds up when the environment stops being controlled.

Ben Abotomey

Lead Firearms Safety Instructor⎮Range Officer

Ben Abotomey is Elite Readiness Group’s Lead Firearms Safety Instructor and Range Officer. He brings more than 20 years of leadership and operational experience across the mining, explosives, industrial and security sectors.

With over 15 years of experience in blasting operations, heavy machinery, emergency response and site compliance, Ben has developed an extensive understanding of safety, risk management and operational control in demanding environments. His background includes leading teams, conducting safety audits and incident investigations, delivering personnel training and maintaining strict compliance with workplace procedures and regulatory requirements.

Ben holds nationally recognised Diplomas in Work Health and Safety, Management and Business, together with Certificate IV qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety and Training and Assessment. He also holds extensive mining, supervisory, firearms and security qualifications, including Security Operations, Crowd Control, Monitoring Operations, Cash in Transit, Firearms Handling, First Aid and CPR.

As a firearms safety instructor and range officer, Ben combines practical firearms knowledge with disciplined range management, clear instruction and a strong commitment to participant safety. His calm leadership style and extensive experience in safety critical environments ensure training is conducted professionally, responsibly and to a consistently high standard.

Kye Wallis

Lead Instructor⎮Security Operations

Kye Wallis is Lead Security Course Instructor at Elite Readiness Group, responsible for the delivery of the organisation's security qualifications, licensing and refresher training. He brings eight and a half years of military service, including six years in leadership roles, across operational environments where safety, communication and disciplined response were daily requirements rather than training scenarios.

His service background includes maritime and boarding operations, and service on a ship's emergency and fire response team. These are environments in which access control, screening, situational awareness and coordinated emergency response are carried out under real conditions, in confined spaces, where the consequences of getting it wrong are immediate. Kye also brings armed security warden experience, adding direct exposure to guarding, access control and the accountability that comes with an armed posting.

Six years of military leadership has shaped the way he instructs. Kye's approach centres on clear communication, structured decision making, and getting a team to perform together when conditions are not ideal, which are the same capabilities the security industry asks of officers on shift. He holds current First Aid and CPR qualifications.

As Lead Security Course Instructor, Kye delivers Elite Readiness Group's Certificate II in Security Operations and associated licensing and refresher training. His focus is on safety, communication, leadership and response, the four things that determine whether a security officer manages a situation or is managed by it.
